Astore Valley – A Complete Tour Guide

Do you have some time on your hands and a thirst to travel? Well, we’ve got some good news for you. A trip to Astore Valley is just what you might need to recharge and recuperate. Here is a complete tour guide for your next trip to Astore Valley!

Astore Valley

The Astore Valley is located in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan province in the Astore District. The valley is located on the eastern face of Nanga Parbat, also known as the Killer Mountain because it is one of the most dangerous mountains in the world.

Why Should You Go to Astore Valley?

The landscape that makes up the valley is breathtakingly beautiful and composed of a great deal of geographic variety and contrast. It offers the adventurous traveler an abundance of hiking alternatives. It gives them the chance to immerse themselves in a culture that few tourists have ever experienced. Given the valley’s immense size, it would take a long time to explore it in its entirety.

The trading route that connects Gilgit-Baltistan with the Indian subcontinent provides the most exciting perspective to view the region. Over the centuries, this route served as a commercial link between the Gilgit-Kashmir region and other parts of Pakistan. The Gibians import a wide variety of products, including the famous Kashmiri fabrics, from there.

Trekking Through the Astore Valley

Approximately every few kilometers along this route, which essentially follows with the flow of the Astore River, the landscape changes dramatically. The distinctive landscape is characterized by arid plains, from which large, rocky mountains emerge on both sides. The arid landscape transforms into lush, fertile meadows with breath-taking views of the Nanga Parbat.

As you continue walking along the river, the valley begins to take on an alpine feel. The temperature drops, and you will find yourself walking among glaciers by the end of the route. As everything in Astore is built on a massive scale, the environment is wild and aggressive. This area is a true blessing for your eyes.

Astore City

After Astore city, most of the valley is so isolated that the only way to communicate with the outside world is through a land phone. Mobile phones are not available in this area. During the winter, Astore is wholly cut off from the rest of the world because snow mountains block all roads. Astore has more than 70,000 people who live in more than 100 villages throughout the region. These people are known all over Pakistan for their hospitality.

Rama Lake

Rama Lake is a body of water in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan province that is located near Astore. There are a few oak trees and other greenery in the Astore Valley, which has a light covering of oak trees and other vegetation. A visit to Rama Lake and its surrounding pastures is the most popular tourist attraction in the area. The majority of the population engages in subsistence agriculture, with livestock serving as the primary source of income. The valley’s diverse landscape and climatic conditions make it an ideal habitat for many commercially important medicinal plants.

Getting There

The valley can only be reached by four-wheel-drive vehicles. The most convenient option would be to rent a Jeep, but public transportation is also a viable option. Some old 44 pickups are leaving Gilgit city on their way to the city of Astore, which is the point of entry into the valley from the north. The journey takes about 4-5 hours. You should be aware that you might be traveling with at least twenty other people during that time.

The area’s residents’ immense beauty and incredible hospitality will make you feel like your heart is full of love and joy. Like Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail”. You’ll be compelled to see the entire area, go off-trail, and have an experience of a lifetime. Don’t wait; just go; Astore Valley awaits.
