Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter, has formed an entity named X.AI in Nevada, which could lay the foundation for a new startup to pursue his artificial intelligence (AI) ambitions.

Let’s know more about this informative news of Elon Musk X.AI. He is planning for an OpenAI revival.

According to a Nevada state filing with the Secretary of State, Musk and Jared Birchall, who manages Musk’s family office, incorporated X.AI in March. However, the filing does not mention the company’s purpose, and Musk has not commented.

The Wall Street Journal initially reported the existence of X.AI, and Musk has a history of openly criticizing OpenAI, one of the most well-known AI startups. In February, it was reported that Musk had approached researchers about establishing a new AI research laboratory to compete with creators of AI models like ChatGPT and Dall-E.

One former employee of Alphabet Inc.’s DeepMind, Igor Babuschkin, disclosed that he and Musk had discussed forming a team.

Musk’s efforts in AI could be a part of his broader goal of creating a “super-app.” He has often discussed developing an “everything app” called X, and he recently combined Twitter into a parent company named X Corp. He has stated that the social media platform will help accelerate the creation of X.

According to a recent report by the Financial Times, Musk is holding discussions with investors from Tesla and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. to help finance an AI startup, citing unidentified sources familiar with the matter.

However, the creation of X.AI suggests that Musk may be looking to start a new venture dedicated to AI research and development. Given Musk’s reputation as a forward-thinking entrepreneur and innovator, it will be interesting to see what X.AI has in store for the future of AI technology.

According to recent reports, Elon Musk has purchased thousands of processors from Nvidia Corp. for his new project, which has boosted the chipmaker’s shares by as much as 1.6%. Despite his involvement with artificial intelligence, Musk was part of a group of tech leaders and researchers that called for a pause in training powerful AI models last month.

In 2015, Musk was among the founders of OpenAI, where he served as a co-chair alongside Sam Altman, the current CEO.

The organization’s original goal was to advance digital intelligence to benefit humanity rather than generate financial returns. However, Musk left OpenAI’s board in 2018 and criticized the organization for creating a for-profit branch in 2019. He expressed concerns that the company was “training AI to be woke” and was effectively controlled by Microsoft Corp., which invested $10 billion into OpenAI.

In a podcast discussing Musk’s criticisms, Sam Altman called him a “jerk” while acknowledging Musk’s worries about the future of humanity.
