Ponniyin Selvan Part 2

Some viewers expecting another grand, action-heavy period epic like SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali series may have been disappointed by the first part of Ponniyin Selvan. However, those who enjoyed PS 1 and are accustomed to Mani Ratnam’s style will be amazed by the dramatic tension and political intrigue throughout the second part.

Ratnam’s use of drama and politics to create tension and suspense is masterful, as seen in the face-off sequence between Aditha Karikalan and Nandini, one of the best cinematic moments in Tamil cinema according to Hindustan Times.

Each character is further fleshed out in the second part, with Arunmozhi Varman getting more screen time and Jayam Ravi delivering a satisfying performance. Karthi as Vandhiyathevan continues to leave a lasting impact on the audience, while Aishwarya Rai as Nandini and Vikram as Aditya Karikalan shines in their respective roles, respectively, delivering convincing performances.

Rai’s character has a powerful impact on the audience, and her rage-filled eyes and long silences bring life to the film. Her performance is so impressive that it is hard to imagine anyone else in her shoes.

In addition to the gut-wrenching drama, the exquisite visuals elevate PS 2 and provide a larger-than-life viewing experience. Watching the film in IMAX is particularly appealing.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 is a must-watch film for those who enjoy historical epics focusing on drama and politics. It showcases Mani Ratnam’s talents and the cast’s exceptional performances, particularly Aishwarya Rai.
