Lahore, the second-largest city in Pakistan, has reported its first case of a deadly brain-eating amoeba (Naegleria).
Media reports indicate that a private laboratory has confirmed the presence of Naegleria in a 30-year-old patient who was admitted to Services Hospital. Tragically, the patient passed away later in the evening.
Medical reports revealed the presence of brain-eating amoeba movement in the patient’s body, indicating a possible infection with Naegleria fowleri.
Dr. Ehtisham Haque, the Medical Superintendent of Services Hospital, stated that the patient had been experiencing headaches and fever for the past few days, which began after swimming in a swimming pool. It’s supposed that the cause of his death was to be a heart attack, but he was suffering from Naegleria.
A team of senior medical experts had been assigned to treat the patient at Services Hospital before his unfortunate demise.
In light of this incident, health officials are urging the public to use chlorinated water as a preventive measure to curb the spread of Naegleria.
