ICC World Test Championship: 7 Indian Players Leave For England

The thrilling season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is drawing to a close, and the focus now shifts to the Indian National Cricket Team as they prepare for the highly anticipated 2023 ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia.

The final is scheduled from 7th to 11th June at The Oval in England, and Indian fans are eagerly uniting to support their team in this crucial battle.

With eight of the twelve IPL teams being eliminated from the tournament, the Indian players who were part of those teams will head to England early to acclimatize and prepare for the upcoming ICC tournament.

The Indian team has their eyes set on the World Test Championship title, a feat they have not achieved since winning the Champions Trophy in 2013.

Virat Kohli, the skilled all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, the spin sensation Axar Patel, the versatile Shardul Thakur, the talented fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav, and the resilient Jaydev Unadkat, will depart for England on Tuesday, May 23.

Cheteshwar Pujara will join them as a specialist in Test cricket who has been in exceptional form while representing Sussex in county cricket in the UK over the past month.

2023 ICC World Test Championship

Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav, who faced injury concerns during the IPL, have reportedly cleared the National Cricket Academy (NCA) fitness test and are deemed fit to participate in the championship.

Additionally, Mukesh Kumar from the Delhi Capitals, who is part of the squad as a reserve player, will travel with the team. Accompanying them will be net bowlers Aniket Choudhary, Akash Deep, and Yarra Prithviraj.

The remaining members of the squad, including the esteemed captain Rohit Sharma, the explosive batsman Ishan Kishan, the dynamic all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, the composed Ajinkya Rahane, the experienced paceman Mohammad Shami, the promising KS Bharat, and the talented Shubman Gill, along with reserves Suryakumar Yadav and Ruturaj Gaikwad, will join the team on May 29. They will go to London the night after the IPL final, as their respective IPL teams have advanced to the playoffs.
